NIJ recommends the following care instructions for your body armor

• Regularly inspect your ballistic panel covers visually.

• If the integrity of a ballistic panel cover is compromised in any way, promptly notify your department or agency representative.

• Never attempt to fix, repair, or modify your ballistic armor panels. Any modification or alteration of the ballistic panel may severely affect its integrity and ballistic performance.

• Once a body armor panel has been shot—even once—replace it immediately. Never use it again for ballistic protection purposes.

• If a body armor panel shows any sign of excessive wear or damage, it must be replaced or returned to the manufacturer through your department or agency.

How to properly maintain your body armor

• Store your body armor in a climate-controlled environment when not in use.

• Keep your body armor away from direct sunlight.

• Lay your body armor flat on the ground after use.

• Wipe armor panels with a damp cloth as needed.
